Title:
Physical examination skill training with a robo-patient

Nursing and medical training involve developing skills such as paying attention to subtle transient information such as spotting facial expressions of pain, involuntary muscle guarding, stiffness control while doing physical examination, and realtime multimodal feedback combination. On top of that, different sex and culture interactions between the patient and doctor/nurse can also be challenging. Most of these skills are difficult to be demonstrated on real patients. In this talk, I will show results of a robotic patient that can provide facial expressions of pain from different sex and culture backgrounds and how visual interventions lead to skill improvements.
